Tongayi Masvikwa is a dual national of South Africa and Zimbabwe. He holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Master of Laws in International Business Law. He is a business lawyer with multi-jurisdictional professional and academic experience in private international law gained at leading academic institutions and international law firms in South Africa and Canada.
Tongayi has had the unique privilege of living in six African countries, spanning the Southern, Eastern, and Western parts of the continent. His rare perspective of the nuances in regional and national African political, cultural, and business practices has been further enhanced by his role as a legal counsel at the African Development Bank. Here, Tongayi provides legal advisory services to African governments in their negotiations with private investors in order to maximize the development impact of the complex commercial agreements they enter into.
Tongayi is passionate about issues relating to economic and social development in Africa. He has long held the belief that creative arts, sports, and media are
areas with the potential to rapidly foster development and uplift millions of
Africans. However, in order to realise this potential there is a need to create
conducive business environments that enable artists, entertainment and sports
figures to derive optimal economic benefits from the exploitation of their
talents and abilities. The benefits to African communities of an industry with
the appropriate structures are exponential; as the economic gains of the talent
will translate into growth in supporting industries. Through his association
with Africa 1 Media, Tongayi aspires to catalyse economic growth on the
continent by enabling African talent to monetize from the showcasing of their world-class abilities across Africa and beyond.
